                                                   HEALING OILS

                                             OLIVE OIL

To say that the olive tree is one of the oldest trees around is putting it mildly.  Fossilized olive leaves dating approximately one million years ago were found in what is now Mongardino, Italy.

The oil from the olive has been used for centuries as both food and fuel.  For example, before kerosene or petroleum-based oils, olive oil was the basis for reading lamps.

It was also used for healing.  Olive oil’s medicinal benefits were promoted by Hippocrates, the father of medicine.  Around 400 B.C., Hippocrates prescribed this exceptional oil for ulcers, cholera, gallbladder, joint and muscular pains.  Hippocrates knew over 3,000 years ago what researchers are finally admitting today.  Olive oil has healing properties.

Olive oil contains an ingredient that other oils do not have: oleic acid.  Oleic acid is a member of the omega-9 family and is responsible for keeping the arteries “flexible”. Olive oil is also vitamin rich with vitamin E and beta-carotene. Two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil supplies the body with approximately 3.2 milligrams of Vitamin E, and also chlorophyll, which is naturally rich in magnesium.
