| GOD-WINKS BY REV. JUDY FISHMAN Have you ever noticed that certain things recur again and again? We start to notice them and say, “Oh, what a coincidence!” But do you ever act on them? Recently I have begun to notice coincidences and to act on them because I have started to see a pattern and I think my guides, teachers, God, someone, is telling me something and I had better start to listen. I found a little book called “When God Winks”, by a man named Squire Rushnell. The inside blurb says in part “It is not by accident that you just picked up “When God Winks.” Whether you call it synchronicity or coincidence, what brought you to this book today is worth remembering. In fact, you may have suspected all along that there is more to coincidence than meets the eye. These seemingly random events are actually signposts that can help you successfully navigate your career, relationships, and interests. We can use the power of coincidence to vastly improve our lives.” I picked up this particular book and actually read it immediately. And guess what—I recognized the absolute truth in it and started to notice the coincidences that were occurring and then I began to act on them. The latest one goes as follows: A lady I hadn’t heard from in a while called the other day. She proceeded to tell me about her life and this franchise that she and her husband had recently bought. I had vaguely heard of this company but had paid it very little attention. I asked her to tell me more about what it was. The name of it was Curves, a women’s exercise club. The next day I was channel surfing on TV, and CNBC announced they would give a detailed report on Curves, the hottest franchise in the world right now. I thought to myself, that’s interesting; I think I’ll watch this. So I did. I turned off the TV and headed for my next appointment. As I’m driving down Broadway, a half mile from my house, I glance up and there is a Curves. Well, I said to myself, I guess this is one of those things I’m supposed to do. So on my way back I stopped in to get information and made an appointment for the next day to sign up. Squire Rushnell says that a God wink is a message of reassurance coming when you most need it: when you’re at a crossroads in your life and when instability is all around. Coincidences are the best way for God to establish a perpetual presence in your life. Think about it. If you were God and wanted to communicate with human beings without using a human voice, how would you do it? You’d perform little miracles, wouldn’t you? You’d create little miracles, like coincidences, that cause people to say, “What are the odds of this ever happening?” Those are God winks. I have a clairvoyant friend in New Jersey named Peggy Ray who told me in 1987 that I needed to see my gynecologist because there was something wrong in my body. The something wrong was that there was the beginnings of cancer. Due to Peggy, it was detected very early and taken care of promptly. A few years ago I was at a crossroads, I needed to do something more with my life but I wasn’t sure what. I contacted Peggy again for answers and we discussed my issues and life by email. The first thing she said when we got on the phone was, “Have you ever thought about doing TV?” And I said “No.” She said, “Well, I see you in front of a camera doing interviews on New Age kind of subjects. You will do very well doing that. Now I had never thought of doing television. But if that is what I was supposed to do, I found out how to do it. A friend told me about Access TV, public television, and the rest is history. I tape two or three shows once a month. I contact the guests and do the scripts and organization, Cary does the production work and critiques. So life is a searching, a striving to reach that mystical level of perfection. It is rare to reach and even more difficult to stay for very long but it is in the striving that we grow. * Judy’s TV show is on channel 72, Cox and Comcast Cable TV, Monday at 9 p.m. and rerun again on Friday at 10 am. |
